Hogwarts Legacy has been highly successful, as highlighted by its first-place ranking in the Australian sales chart in its opening week. This indicates the game’s early popularity, leading Avalanche Software to possibly reevaluate its stance on not producing DLC for the title.
The Harry Potter game has already broken a 22-year-old UK sales record, becoming the most-viewed single-player title on Twitch, and the biggest Steam launch for WB Games to date. These accomplishments make it one of the most successful games of the year, even though it has yet to reach the last-generation consoles, which have an estimated total of 300 million units. Avalanche Software is still in the process of porting the game to these platforms.
The Hogwarts Legacy game is continuing to be a top seller in the Oceania region, as reported by the Interactive Games and Entertainment Association. This RPG was the highest-selling title in both Australia and New Zealand, outselling NBA 2K23 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which came in second and third place respectively in both countries.

In Australia and New Zealand, FIFA 23 and Grand Theft Auto 5 completed the five most popular games for the week of February 12, 2023. The lower halves of the two countries’ charts were slightly more diverse, still featuring Middle-Earth: Shadow of War and The Last of Us Remastered. Yet, Australians opted for The Last of Us Part 1, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Middle-Earth: The Shadow Bundle in vast numbers, whereas Red Dead Redemption 2, Sea of Thieves, and WWE 2K22 were more preferred by the Kiwis, according to the same report.
The Interactive Software Federation of Europe, although it has a European-sounding name, also keeps tabs on the Asia-Pacific markets and compiled these rankings not containing exact figures but based on physical and digital purchases. This is more reliable than other country-specific reports, including the one that showed Hogwarts Legacy was ahead of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in Japan in its first week.
Early pre-order figures for the multi-platform title Hogwarts Legacy have already indicated it will be one of the larger releases in 2023, so the sales reports that have come in up to this point are not unexpected. The game’s commercial success is anticipated to be sustained in the months ahead, largely due to the ports of the game that are set to launch for last-generation consoles.
Hogwarts Legacy can now be played on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Players on PS4 and Xbox One can experience the game on April 4th, while the Switch version will be available on July 25th.
